ISTANBUL, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has confirmed that American activist Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by Israeli occupation forces while in detention after the seizure of the ship Handala, which was attempting to break the siege on Gaza.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the coalition reported that seven Israeli soldiers in military uniform attacked Smalls, president of the Amazon Labor Union, choking and kicking him, leaving visible injuries on his neck and back. The coalition also pointed out that six members of the Israeli police surrounded Smalls during a scheduled meeting with his lawyer.
The FCC condemned the assault and called for accountability for those responsible for the attack and for what it described as the discriminatory treatment of Smalls.
