Another Infant Succumbs to Cold in Gaza as Winter Deaths Rise

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), A seven‑month‑old Palestinian infant died in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday from extreme cold, becoming the ninth child to succumb to harsh winter conditions in the coastal encalave this season.

The infant, Shada Abu Jarad from Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood, suffered cardiac arrest after prolonged exposure to low temperatures, a medical source said.

Her death underscores the catastrophic living conditions facing displaced families in Gaza, where tens of thousands are sheltering in tents, damaged buildings, or overcrowded facilities without adequate heating, blankets, or winter clothing.

The absence of proper shelter, combined with limited access to healthcare, clean water, and nutritious food, has left Gaza’s most vulnerable population, particularly children and the elderly, exposed to life-threatening risks.

Despite the nominal ceasefire, humanitarian access remains severely restricted, delaying the delivery of vital aid and winterization needs.
