GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed on Sunday that approximately 170 aid trucks had entered the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement, UNRWA emphasized that it plays a central role in aid distribution and that other UN organizations are unable to organize the process effectively.
“We are the only organization with warehouses in Gaza and capable of distributing aid in an organized and transparent manner,” the agency said.
UNRWA also noted that it is the only body with the capacity to distribute aid inside Gaza City, adding, “We have thousands of workers and hundreds of distribution points that we can rebuild within hours, even in heavily damaged areas.”
The agency pointed out that Israel controls what aid is allowed in and its type through the Karem Abu Salem crossing, which it fully oversees.
It also highlighted that 6,000 aid trucks are waiting at the gates of Gaza, with ongoing negotiations to allow them entry.
Earlier on Sunday, limited quantities of cooking gas began to enter the Gaza Strip for the first time in more than six months.
Gas distribution associations in Gaza confirmed that several trucks carrying gas entered through the Karem Abu Salem commercial crossing in the southern part of the Strip.
Several gas distributors reported that the General Petroleum Authority had instructed them to collect gas cylinders from residents as quickly as possible, with a deadline of tonight.
Distributor Yousef Abu Samra said, “According to the Authority’s instructions, the price of a cylinder for the public will be 60 shekels, at a rate of 8 shekels per kilo.”
Following two years of a full-scale war on the Palestinian people in Gaza, a ceasefire came into effect last Friday morning after the Israeli military announced the withdrawal of its forces to the “yellow line,” in accordance with the agreement approved by the Israeli government the previous night.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced people began heading north toward Gaza City after the Israeli military declared the start of the ceasefire at 12 p.m. local time on Friday, allowing passage via Al-Rashid and Salah al-Din roads.
The ceasefire is part of a broader political agreement brokered by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye and represents the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war.
This phase includes a complete cessation of hostilities, partial Israeli withdrawals, a prisoner exchange, the opening of crossings, and the entry of humanitarian aid.
