GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, on Sunday denied what it described as “fabricated” media reports claiming the Movement had agreed to surrender its weapons as part of ceasefire negotiations.
Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said in a statement that “there is absolutely no truth” to such claims circulated by certain TV networks and news outlets about the Movement’s alleged readiness to disarm.
“These false reports aim to distort the Movement’s position and confuse public opinion,” Mardawi said, urging media outlets to verify information and rely only on official Hamas channels for accurate updates.
The statement comes amid ongoing negotiations to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza, which has killed and injured more than 234,000 Palestinians and left over 11,000 missing since October 7, 2023. The genocide, carried out with US support, has wiped out entire neighborhoods, forced mass displacement, and created famine-like conditions in the besieged enclave.
Earlier Sunday, Hamas Political Bureau member Ezzat al-Resheq welcomed a joint declaration by the foreign ministers of seven Arab and Islamic countries, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, expressing support for the Palestinian position in the negotiations and calling for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
Al-Resheq described the statement as “significant backing” for Palestinian efforts to halt the Israeli genocide and begin reconstruction under a national Palestinian administration supported by Arab and Islamic partners.
“We look forward to more Arab and Islamic support to end the genocide and occupation, and to realize our people’s aspirations for independence and a state with Jerusalem as its capital,” he said.
According to the joint statement, the ministers welcomed Hamas’s recent steps in response to US president Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war, exchange captives, and launch immediate reconstruction talks. The ministers also praised Hamas’s announcement that it would hand over Gaza’s administration to an interim Palestinian technocratic committee to help manage the post-war phase.
In its official statement on Friday, Hamas said it appreciates the international and regional mediation efforts, including those by Arab, Islamic, and US actors, aimed at stopping the genocide and facilitating a comprehensive prisoner exchange. The Movement confirmed its willingness to release all Israeli captives, living and deceased, in accordance with Trump’s proposal, under agreed security and logistical conditions.
Hamas reiterated that any final agreement must guarantee a complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, unrestricted humanitarian access, and the protection of Palestinian national rights.
