GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Asra Media Office confirmed that the issue of prisoners will remain a top priority for the Palestinian people and their brave resistance. “Our struggle for their liberation continues through all means, primarily through resistance, which has proven its ability to impose conditions for liberation, as seen in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal and the Tufan al-Ahrar deal,” it added.
In a statement on Thursday, marking the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, the Office emphasized that the Israeli crimes committed against prisoners, especially the enforced disappearance of prisoners from Gaza, will not be forgotten and will remain a stain on the conscience of the silent international community.
It called for activating all forms of political, legal, and media pressure, both Arab and international, to internationalize the issue of prisoners and work towards including the Israeli crimes against them in legal proceedings before the International Criminal Court and all human rights forums.
The statement urged the Palestinian people in all areas, both within the occupied homeland and in the diaspora, to participate widely in popular activities and to join marches of anger and loyalty in support of the prisoners.
This year, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day falls at a time of exceptional circumstances that overshadow the prisoners in the Israeli jails, amidst war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed against those prisoners before the very eyes of this unjust world.
According to the statement, this occasion also coincides with the Al-Aqsa Flood battle and the historic Tufan of al-Ahrar deal, which marked a pivotal moment in the Palestinian people’s struggle and renewed hope for breaking chains and imposing will on the jailer.
The Office noted that the number of prisoners and detainees in the Israeli jails has reached over 9,900 as of the beginning of April 2025, including 3,498 administrative detainees, at least 400 children, and 29 female prisoners. Additionally, 1,747 prisoners from Gaza are classified as “illegal combatants” by the prison administration.
Since the onset of the aggression against Gaza, Israel has turned its prisons into human slaughterhouses where the most horrific forms of revenge and humiliation are inflicted on prisoners, including the sick, women, and children. Hundreds are held in detention facilities created after the Al-Aqsa Flood battle, such as Sde Teiman and the underground Ramla prison, which lack the most basic elements of human life.
Testimonies from released prisoners document heinous crimes that shock humanity, including rape, brutal torture, medical neglect, and the deliberate spread of diseases—crimes committed by decision and blessing of the Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, resulting in the martyrdom of 64 individuals since October 7, 2023, raising the number of martyrs from the prisoners’ movement to 301 since 1967.
