CAIRO,(The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, announced that its delegation, headed by Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, its leader in the Gaza Strip, has arrived in Egypt to begin negotiations on the mechanisms for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of occupation forces, and the exchange of prisoners.
Earlier on Sunday the head of Hamas in Gaza and the chief negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, appeared in the media for the first time since the assassination attempt targeting him during the Israeli airstrike on Doha on September 9. His appearance came via a video clip broadcast by Al-Araby TV.
On Friday evening, Hamas announced that it had delivered its response to the mediators regarding the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the war on the Gaza Strip.
On Monday evening, the White House revealed details of President Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, stating that “if both parties agree to this proposal, the war will end immediately.”
The proposal stipulates the return of living Israeli captives and the remains of the deceased within 72 hours of the agreement’s announcement, the surrender of resistance weapons, and the preparation of an economic and administrative plan for the Gaza Strip.
The Government Media Office in Gaza reported that the Israeli occupation forces continued “the aggression against the Gaza Strip despite calls for a ceasefire,” noting that Israeli warplanes and artillery carried out more than 93 airstrikes in the past 24 hours, concentrated in densely populated areas and among displaced persons.
In a related development, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it will host delegations from Hamas and Israel on Monday to discuss the prisoner exchange process according to President Trump’s proposal.
A well-informed diplomatic source told Al Jazeera that “technical talks to begin implementing the first phase of Trump’s plan will start on Monday in the Egyptian coastal resort Sharm El-Sheikh.”
The source added that the Hamas negotiating delegation will leave Doha on Sunday for Egypt in preparation for its participation in the talks, noting that the Qatari delegation will head to Egypt on Monday as the discussions on implementing Trump’s plan begin.
