OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Hebrew daily Haaretz reported that the new Israeli police chief in Occupied Jerusalem, Avshalom Peled, officially assumed his post on Sunday, just weeks before the start of Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan.
The move is seen as part of far‑right security minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir’s efforts to change the status quo at the Aqsa Mosque.
The newspaper noted that Peled would begin his job during a “sensitive” period, highlighting that he would be facing tests on whether he would support Ben Gvir’s agendas regarding the Aqsa Mosque and Israel’s Arab citizens.
The newspaper said that Ben Gvir and national police chief Danny Levy dismissed police commander Amir Arzani because of his policy regarding Jewish worship at the Aqsa Mosque.
