GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center)Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s practice of labeling Western political leaders critical of Israel as antisemitic, calling it “despicable.”
Speaking in an interview with Spain’s La Sexta television channel on Tuesday, Borrell stated: “Netanyahu responds to every criticism by accusing us of antisemitism. I believe it is despicable to brand those who criticize what is happening as antisemitic.”
Borrell also accused Netanyahu of committing genocide and attempting to eradicate the Palestinian people.
“I believe there is a clear genocidal intent. The definition of genocide aligns precisely with what the Israeli Defense Minister says every day,” he added.
He went on to condemn the violence and repression perpetrated by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, stating: “It is evident that there is occupation and denial in the West Bank. Palestinians are living under an apartheid regime.”
Since 7 October 2023, and with the backing of the US and Europe, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 177,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of whom are women and children. More than 14,000 others remain missing.
