OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Islamic-Christian Commission for the Support of Jerusalem and the Holy Sites warned of the accelerated Israeli plan to demolish dozens of houses in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan in Occupied Jerusalem.
The Commission said in a statement on Tuesday that Israeli municipal crews distributed, in the past couple of days, dozens of demolition notices targeting homes and facilities in Al-Bustan neighborhood, in the largest home demolition campaign in the area in several years.
The Commission explained that recent demolition notices were issued in the wake of implementing extensive demolitions in the neighborhood that affected a number of houses, an office and the Al-Bustan Tent.
The Commission stressed that targeting the Al-Bustan neighborhood, which is spread over an area of 70 dunums, and consists of 80 homes housing about 1,500 Jerusalemites, constitutes a violation of the right of the Jerusalemites to housing.
It added that the demolition spree is an attempt to empty the area of its indigenous population, forcing them to migrate to transform the neighborhood into a Jewish-only outpost.
The Commission called on the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and intervene to stop the crimes of ethnic cleansing to which the Jerusalemites are being exposed to.
