GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The number of journalists martyred in the Gaza Strip has risen to 221 since the start of the Israeli genocide against the besieged enclave, following the confirmed death of journalist Mu’taz Muhammad Rajab on Wednesday.
The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza condemned the “systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists” by the Israeli occupation army.
In a statement, the GMO urged international press organizations, including the International Federation of Journalists and the Arab Journalists Union, to denounce these “systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals.”
The GMO held Israel, the US administration, and other governments complicit in the genocide fully responsible for “such heinous and brutal crimes.”
“We call on the international community and journalism-related organizations around the world to condemn the crimes of the occupation, deter its attacks, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable in international courts,” the statement added.
“We urge immediate, serious, and effective pressure to halt the genocide, protect journalists, and stop their targeted killings and assassinations in the Gaza Strip,” it concluded.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces, backed unconditionally by the United States, have waged a relentless assault on Gaza by land, sea, and air.
According to preliminary figures, more than 177,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, with thousands of victims still trapped under the rubble.
