RAMALLAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Palestinian rights groups have warned of a serious deterioration in the health of detained journalist Ali al-Samoudi, who has been held in Israeli occupation prisons for eight months, after losing around 40 kilograms and dropping to a weight of 68 kilograms.
According to the groups, al-Samoudi is suffering from ten concurrent medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers, bleeding gums, sudden spikes in heart rate, recurrent dizziness and fainting, severe headaches, acute urinary tract inflammation, and serious problems in his left ear that nearly caused hearing loss.
His lawyer said al-Samoudi was recently transferred to Megiddo prison under harsh conditions, amid ongoing daily violations against Palestinian detainees, including restrictions on basic rights, denial of family visits, and the absence of adequate medical care.
Israeli occupation forces arrested al-Samoudi in the early hours of April 29, 2025, after raiding his home in Jenin. On May 8, he was placed under administrative detention for six months, before Israeli authorities extended his detention in September 2025 until January 3, 2026, without filing any formal charges.
During his imprisonment, al-Samoudi has been subjected to repeated abuses, including beatings, verbal humiliation, prolonged solitary confinement, and systematic denial of medical treatment. Rights groups say these practices have significantly worsened his condition and raised grave concerns for his life.
They renewed calls for urgent international intervention to ensure his immediate access to specialized medical care and to end the policy of administrative detention targeting Palestinian journalists and detainees.
