Director of Kamal Adwan hospital appeals to the world for basic and medical supplies

GAZA  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Dr. Hussam Abu Safya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, has called on the international community and health organizations to urgently provide essential supplies and ambulance services, as well as to lift the Israeli blockade on northern Gaza.

In press statements on Sunday, Abu Safya said, “We are beginning to observe cases of malnutrition and famine in northern Gaza, which is experiencing a genocidal war. We are struggling to provide even one meal a day for the hospital workers, amidst a severe shortage of food and medical supplies.”

He emphasized the urgent need for medical support in light of the systematic attacks by the Israeli occupation army on the healthcare system, saying, “We are losing lives every day due to a lack of specialized care and resources.”

Regarding the stock of medications and medical personnel, Abu Safya pointed out that the medication supply has reached zero, with no specialized medical teams available to address the nature of injuries arriving at the hospital.

He added, “It is very unfortunate to receive heartbreaking calls about people trapped under the rubble while we are unable to assist them. Just yesterday, we received reports about children and women trapped in difficult conditions, and today we mourn their loss as martyrs. This reality is unbearable.”

Abu Safya urged the international community to urgently assist the hospital and the residents of northern Gaza during this difficult time, and to work on delivering medical supplies and personnel.

On October 26, the Israeli army withdrew from Kamal Adwan Hospital, leaving behind Palestinian martyrs and widespread destruction inside and outside the facility after a nearly 24-hour incursion.

The residents of Gaza City and the northern Gaza governorate are suffering from real famine due to severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel, as a result of the blockade imposed by Israel on the two governorates since the beginning of its ground operation in Gaza Strip on October 27, 2023, which has led to the death of several children and elderly persons.

The Israeli army began a ground invasion of northern Gaza in early last month under the pretext of preventing Hamas from regaining strength in the area, while Palestinians charge that Israel aims to permanently occupy and ethnically cleanse northern Gaza and turn it into a buffer zone.

Since October 7, 2023, the occupation has been waging a bloody war on Gaza, resulting in over 146,000 Palestinian martyrs and injured, most of whom are children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly, marking one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
