Dr. Al-Hout: Evacuation orders for Nasser Medical Complex are death sentence for patients

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The director general of the Nasser Medical Complex Dr. Atef Al-Hout has issued a stark warning following evacuation orders by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) targeting areas surrounding the hospital.

Dr. Al-Hout described the move as a “death sentence” for hundreds of critically ill and wounded patients, including approximately 40 in intensive care units.

The evacuation orders, issued Monday evening, target several densely populated neighborhoods in western Khan Yunis—blocks 47, 106, 108, and 109—and direct residents to move toward Al-Mawasi, a narrow, overcrowded strip along the coast.

While the hospital itself was not explicitly ordered to evacuate, the surrounding displacement would effectively cut off access for the wounded and eliminate the hospital’s ability to operate.

“There is no hospital or place where we can transfer the sick and wounded,” Dr. al-Hout stated in a press release on Tuesday. “This will result in catastrophic consequences. We’re already struggling to feed our staff, who are working around the clock under bombardment, while also trying to shelter their families inside the hospital,” he added.

The situation inside the Nasser complex has grown increasingly dire. In just 24 hours, the facility received 24 martyrs and 37 wounded—many shot while waiting for aid west of Rafah, according to hospital officials.

The IOF also reportedly targeted the Al-Najjar office in Khan Yunis, which was sheltering displaced families, committing yet a new massacre.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health accused Israel of deliberately targeting the health sector as part of its broader genocide against Gaza’s population, which began on October 7, 2023.

With full US backing, the Israeli campaign has killed or wounded more than 178,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Thousands remain missing under rubble, and hundreds of thousands are displaced in extreme inhumane conditions.

The Ministry stressed that the Nasser Medical Complex is the only facility in southern Gaza providing specialized care. If forced out of service, the consequences would be devastating for patients in intensive care units, emergency rooms, and neonatal wards.

Health officials and humanitarian agencies continue to appeal for international intervention to halt the systematic destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure.
