E1 Project in Jerusalem Progresses with Tender for 3,401 Homes

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission has said that the “Israeli land authority has issued a major tender to build 3,401 settler homes in the area known as “E1” in the east of Occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement on Wednesday, head of the commission Muayyad Shaaban described this Israeli settlement project as a “highly dangerous step” in Israel’s accelerating settlement plans.

“The Israeli occupation authority has effectively moved from the stage of planning and approval to the stage of implementation regarding this plan, which is one of the most dangerous settlement schemes that had been nominally frozen for three decades,” Shaaban said.

“This tender is part of the broader ‘E1’ plan, formally approved in August 2025 after being postponed for nearly three decades under international pressure,” he added.

He warned that announcing this tender means severing Jerusalem entirely from its Palestinian environs, linking the illegal Ma’ale Adumim settlement to the holy city under the Israeli “Greater Jerusalem” project, which would eliminate any viable chance for a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.

For decades, E1 has been considered a “red line” by the international community because its use by Israel for settlement construction would cut off east Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank and fragment Palestinian territories.
