BRUSSELS (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The European Council of Imams (ECI) has strongly condemned the recent visit to Israel by a delegation of so-called imams from Europe.
In an official statement, the ECI said:
“At a time when Muslims, humanitarian organizations, various religious groups, and all people of conscience around the world are rallying in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and calling for an end to the genocide being perpetrated by the Zionist occupation army, we were shocked by media reports of a visit by so-called imams to the occupying Israeli state and their meeting with its criminal figures. This act starkly contradicts human and moral sensibilities and runs counter to the core Islamic principles that call for standing with the oppressed, rejecting injustice, and showing loyalty to vulnerable Muslims.”
In this regard, the European Council of Imams strongly condemns this disgraceful act and affirms the following:
Firstly: The members of this delegation are unknown among Europe’s established imams and Muslim preachers. They have no connection to reputable religious institutions or trusted Islamic organizations recognized by European Muslim communities.
Secondly: The context and sponsors of this visit clearly expose its provocative and performative nature, intended to serve questionable agendas. It does not, in any way, reflect the steadfast position of European Muslims, who remain in full solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza and continue to denounce the brutal genocide being committed by the Zionist occupation army. The ongoing protests and daily demonstrations in cities across Europe stand as undeniable evidence of this unwavering stance.
Thirdly: The European Council of Imams calls upon all imams, scholars, activists, and freedom-loving individuals of all faiths to intensify their efforts in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and to actively resist the ongoing war of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
The Council further emphasized that any attempt to whitewash the crimes of the occupier constitutes a betrayal of Allah, His Messenger, and the blood of the oppressed.
It also warned against efforts to distort public consciousness and undermine foundational moral principles through paid or misled individuals.
The statement concluded with a prayer:
“We ask Allah, the Exalted, to strengthen the hearts of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, to grant victory to the people of Gaza against their oppressors, and to return them to their homes and lives in safety and dignity.”
