Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye welcome Gaza governance by Palestinian technocrats

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye welcomed on Wednesday evening the completion of the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee, led by Dr. Ali Abdel Hamid Shaath, to manage the Gaza Strip.

In a joint statement, the three countries, acting as mediators in the ceasefire agreement, described the committee’s formation as a significant development that could support efforts to stabilize the situation and improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

The mediators expressed hope that the committee would pave the way for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, as outlined in US President Donald Trump’s plan, helping to reinforce calm and prevent further escalation.

The statement stressed the importance of all parties fully committing to the agreement’s terms to achieve lasting peace and create conditions for the reconstruction of Gaza, fulfilling the Palestinian people’s aspirations for safety, stability, and dignity.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty also announced on Wednesday that consensus had been reached on the names of 15 members of the technocratic committee tasked with governing Gaza. He stated that various Palestinian factions supported the formation of the transitional body and were working to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

At a press conference in Cairo, Abdel Aaty confirmed that the final list of the 15-member administrative committee had been agreed upon, expressing hope that it would be formally announced soon, enabling the implementation of the remaining parts of the agreement and the committee’s deployment to Gaza to manage civil affairs.

Later that evening, US envoy Steve Witkoff declared the launch of Phase two of President Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza. The phase includes forming a technocratic administration, initiating reconstruction, and complete disarmament.

Witkoff noted that Phase two hinges on establishing a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration in Gaza, officially named “The National Committee for Gaza Administration.” The committee will begin full disarmament efforts, including unauthorized individual weapons, while launching comprehensive reconstruction projects in parallel.
