Escalating Hardships for Palestinian Detainees in Israeli Prisons

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Palestinian detainees from Gaza held in Israel’s Negev and Ramleh prisons are facing increasingly harsh conditions, according to the Asra Media Office (AMO), which warned of mounting restrictions and punitive measures inside prison sections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the AMO said that Israeli prison authorities continue to threaten detainees against disclosing details of their treatment during family or lawyer visits.

Some prisoners are reportedly kept blindfolded for long hours each day, except during shower time or brief outdoor breaks.

They have also complained about the absence of clocks in the sections, leaving them unable to determine the times of suhoor and iftar during Ramadan.

In Negev prison, the statement highlighted worsening medical neglect, insufficient food rations and declining living conditions, alongside the continued use of administrative detention orders renewed without a clear time limit.

Several prisoners are said to be suffering from untreated infections and skin diseases, while noticeable weight loss among detainees points to serious nutritional deficiencies.

Cleaning supplies are reportedly provided in limited quantities despite overcrowded cells.

Although prison authorities have adjusted meal times during Ramadan, the AMO said food quality and quantity remain inadequate, rendering the changes largely cosmetic.

Outdoor time is also irregular in some sections, and administrative detention orders have recently been renewed for several detainees.

Despite the conditions, the AMO said prisoners remain steadfast and continue to spend Ramadan through prayer and worship.

The AMO held prison authorities fully responsible for prisoners’ wellbeing and urged international human rights organizations to intervene urgently to improve conditions and secure the release of the sick, elderly and those held under administrative detention.
