BRUSSELS (Palestine Foundation Information Center)The European Union (EU) has warned that Israel’s decision to halt the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza could have “humanitarian consequences,” calling for resuming negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Speaking at a daily news briefing in Brussels on Monday, European Commission spokesman Anouar el-Anouni responded to questions about the Israeli government’s decision to prevent the entry of all humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza.
“As for humanitarian aid, Israel’s internal decision to block the entry of all humanitarian assistance into Gaza could have humanitarian consequences,” he warned.
“We call for a swift resumption of negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire and express our firm support for the mediators,” Anouni added.
The EU also reiterated its calls for full, rapid, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid for Palestinians in need and for allowing and facilitating humanitarian workers and international organizations to operate effectively and safely inside Gaza.
Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli government announced it would not allow the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
