GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli occupation forces have been exhuming hundreds of graves in northern Gaza as part of an ongoing operation to recover the body of Israeli captive Ran Gvili, according to Israeli media reports.
Israel’s military said large forces are involved in the search, alongside forensic teams and specialists using dental identification methods, with the operation focused on cemeteries east of Gaza City near the so-called “yellow line.”
Israeli army radio reported Monday that more than 200 graves have already been opened, adding that psychological support is being prepared for teams working at the site. Hebrew media said dentists from Israel’s forensic institute were brought in to accelerate identification due to the difficult field conditions.
Israeli estimates claim the captive was buried during the early weeks of the war, possibly without those involved knowing his identity at the time. The cemetery has been divided into sectors, with teams working simultaneously; Israeli officials said the search could expand to the entire cemetery if the body is not found.
The operation comes amid continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including airstrikes and gunfire, which have caused further casualties among displaced Palestinians.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed more than 71,600 Palestinians and wounded over 171,000, in what rights groups describe as an ongoing genocide.
