London – In response to Israel’s ongoing ethnic cleansing in Masafer Yatta, UK-based Friends of Al-Aqsa (FOA) has launched on Monday a campaign urging people in the UK to write to their MPs demanding sanctions on ‘Israel’ until it stops its latest violation of international law.
Masafer Yatta is a rural area in the south of the occupied West Bank, home to over 1000 Palestinians including 500 children. Earlier this month, Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that the ancient Palestinian villages of Masafer Yatta be ethnically cleansed of their Palestinian inhabitants, in one of the largest forced expulsions of Palestinians since the Naksa of 1967.
“It’s so important that we write to our MPs about what’s happening right now in Masafer Yatta” says Shamiul Joarder, Head of Public Affairs at FOA.
“Our MPs are supposed to represent our views, so when we tell them about Israel making 500 Palestinian children homeless, they should be taking the next steps to call for sanctions on Israel.”
“The expulsion of Palestinian residents from Masafer Yatta is part of Israel’s ongoing illegal occupation and apartheid policies in Palestine,” says FOA in a statemnet.
“We can help the Palestinian families of Masafer Yatta stand up against this ethnic cleansing,” FOA adds, urging people to write to their MPs to ask the Foreign Secretary to apply sanctions on ‘Israel’ until it stops violating international law.
FOA is a UK-based campaigning organization concerned with defending the human rights of Palestinians and protecting the sacred al-Aqsa Sanctuary in Jerusalem.
