GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Photojournalist Yazan Al-Zwaidi, the cameraman for Al-Ghad News Channel, was martyred on Sunday after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) targeted him in northern Gaza.
In a statement, the channel held the IOF responsible for targeting journalists and media crews in Gaza, and appealed to international human rights organizations to denounce Israel’s crimes against freedom of expression.
With the martyrdom of Al-Zwaidi, the number of journalists who have been killed by the IOF in the Gaza Strip since October 7 rises to 118 martyrs, according to the Government Media Office (GMO).
Reporters Without Borders announced that the International Criminal Court (ICC) will investigate the Israeli crimes against journalists in Palestinian territories, including Gaza.
The Prosecutor of the ICC, Karim Khan, said, “The investigation into violations in the Palestinian territories will include crimes committed against journalists.”
Reporters Without Borders had previously submitted two files to the ICC on cases of journalists martyred in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
The organization said that “there are reasonable grounds to believe that the cases mentioned in its files were victims of attacks that amount to war crimes, and that available evidence showed that the journalists may have been deliberately targeted.”
Over the past 24 hours, the IOF has committed 11 massacres against families in the Gaza Strip, claiming the lives of 125 martyrs and injuring 265 others.
The Spokesman for Ministry of Health, Ashraf Al-Qudra, said in a press statement, “A number of victims are still under the debris and bodies are left on the roads, as ambulance and civil defense crews were not allowed to reach them.”
Al-Qudra added that the death toll of the Israeli aggression on Gaza has surged to 23,968 martyrs since October 7, in addition to 60,582 injuries, noting that 70% of the victims are children and women.
