6,000 Amputees in Gaza Face Urgent Rehabilitation Crisis

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that at least 6,000 people in Gaza who have undergone amputations urgently require long-term rehabilitation and specialized care, warning of a “shocking and worsening humanitarian reality” for thousands of wounded survivors.

In a statement marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the ministry said the situation for amputees in Gaza has reached an alarming level, with thousands left without the medical, psychological, or social support needed to cope with life-altering injuries.

According to the ministry, children account for 25 percent of all amputations, a generation now facing permanent disabilities at an early age due to the Israeli genocide.

The ministry said the suffering of amputees and their families underscores the immediate need for comprehensive rehabilitation programs, psychosocial support, and long-term community integration services.

It called on relevant international organizations to urgently prioritize care for Gaza’s amputees and to scale up access to specialized rehabilitation, prosthetics, and mental-health programs.
