Gaza Aid Efforts Stalled Amid Fuel Shortages and Road Restrictions

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Thursday that severe fuel shortages and widespread road closures are significantly slowing the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.

In its daily report, OCHA said that despite the resumption of limited fuel shipments, ongoing access restrictions, congestion, and gaps in storage capacity are driving up costs and delaying the delivery of life-saving assistance.

The Office noted that UN partners were able to resume monthly food ration distributions for the first time since October 2023, reaching approximately 100,000 people.

OCHA also reported that since the ceasefire, 35 health service points have been reactivated, alongside the establishment of 25 new sites, including 12 primary healthcare centers, most of them located in northern Gaza.

In addition, temporary learning spaces have been expanded to 424 locations across the enclave, including two new sites opened between January 3 and 4.

These developments come amid tight restrictions imposed by Israeli occupation forces on fuel entry into Gaza, restrictions that have had severe repercussions across all aspects of life in the besieged territory, which is already enduring catastrophic humanitarian conditions as a result of the ongoing genocide.

Repeated fuel shortages and outages have forced several hospitals and health facilities to scale back services or shut down entirely, posing a direct and grave threat to the lives of patients and the wounded.
