Gaza faces looming food production collapse amid blocked supplies

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Officials in Gaza’s food and agricultural sector have warned of an impending shutdown of remaining food production lines and bakeries due to Israel’s continued ban on the entry of industrial oils and essential spare parts.

Samir Shehada, deputy head of the Food and Agriculture Industries Union, said facilities still operating are doing so at minimal capacity, stressing that the depletion of critical technical supplies could soon halt machinery and bring production to a complete standstill.

He warned that the situation threatens to collapse food security and further deepen the humanitarian and economic crisis, as shortages of basic goods intensify across the territory.

Shehada called on international organizations and humanitarian actors to exert immediate pressure to allow the entry of these vital materials, affirming the union’s readiness to coordinate efforts to prioritize needs and sustain production to avert an imminent living catastrophe.

The warning comes as Gaza’s humanitarian crisis worsens under continued war and blockade, which have caused widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure and displaced more than 1.5 million Palestinians into overcrowded shelters lacking basic necessities.
