Gaza Faces Severe Humanitarian Crisis as Storm Destroys Tents

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Gaza’s civil defense service has said that the ongoing weather depression has destroyed or damaged thousands of displaced families’ tents, attributing this humanitarian crisis directly to the Israeli ban on construction materials and reconstruction efforts.

On Friday, a new weather depression started across Gaza, bringing rain and stormy winds.

The Palestinian meteorological authority said today that scattered showers remain likely in some areas, with strong winds occasionally reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

“What is happening is not a weather crisis, but a direct consequence of Israel’s prevention of construction materials from entering and its obstruction of reconstruction, leaving people to live in ragged tents and crumbling houses without safety or dignity,” civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said on Saturday.

Basal also said that every storm hitting the Gaza Strip turns into a real humanitarian disaster under the Israeli blockade, adding that thousands of tents face destruction amid ongoing unstable weather conditions and the absence of protective means.
