Gaza Health Ministry Warns of Total Hospital Collapse Amid Critical Shortages

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Gaza’s health ministry has warned that operating rooms, intensive care units and emergency departments at the few hospitals still providing services in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions amid a sharp surge in the number of civilians suffering from critical injuries.

“The entire healthcare system is teetering on the brink of total collapse,” the health ministry added in a statement on Tuesday.

“The severe shortage of life-saving medicines and medical supplies, coupled with the malfunction of diagnostic imaging equipment, has crippled hospitals’ ability to perform urgent surgical procedures to save the lives of the wounded,” the health ministry said.

“Medical teams are working under extremely challenging conditions and for extended hours, relentlessly striving to treat the wounded and save lives amid mounting pressure on emergency and intensive care units,” the ministry added.

“Blood donation efforts are also no longer sufficient, as widespread malnutrition has weakened the ability of many to contribute,” the ministry said.

“Furthermore, the ministry warned that the hospital generators, which provide life-saving departments with powers, are running on dangerously low fuel reserves — placing the entire healthcare system at imminent risk of blackout and threatening to halt critical medical services at any moment,” the ministry warned.
