Gaza journalists targeted: three killed by Israeli army

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Three Palestinian journalists working for the Egyptian Committee were killed on Wednesday in an Israeli strike in central Gaza.

According to media sources, the journalists were martyred in the afternoon when Israeli army aircraft targeted their car near the committee’s displacement camps in the city of al-Zahra in central Gaza.

Anas Ghunaim, Abdul-Raouf Shaath, and Mohamed Qishta were filming and documenting the humanitarian situation on the ground in central Gaza when their car was bombed.

Munir al-Bursh, director-general of the health ministry, told Al Jazeera satellite channel that the slain photojournalists worked for the Egyptian Committee for Gaza Relief, which supervises Egypt’s relief work in Gaza.

Mohamed Mansour, the committee’s spokesman, told The Associated Press news agency that the journalists were filming a newly established displacement camp. He said the strike occurred about 5 kilometers from the Israeli-controlled area and that the vehicle was known to the Israeli military as belonging to the Egyptian committee.

Video footage circulating online showed their charred, bombed-out vehicle by the roadside, with smoke rising from the wreckage. A fourth person was also killed in the attack, according to Al Jazeera channel.

Israel has been the biggest killer of journalists for three years running, with its army forces killing 260 media professionals since the genocidal war on Gaza started.
