GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Gaza Municipality warned on Monday of sewage spill into displacement shelters adjacent to Sheikh Radwan Pond, west of Gaza City, as sewage overflowed in various areas of the city due to rainfall as well as Israeli forces’ disruption and destruction of infrastructure networks.
Gaza Municipality spokesman Asem al-Nabih said in press statements, Gaza City witnessed major infrastructure destruction, which was clearly evident during the recent cold spell.
He explained that recent rainwater exacerbated sewage problems and led to sewage overflow in various parts of the city.
Referring to sewage networks damage, Al-Nabih said, “We are talking about damage to more than 175,000 linear meters of sewage networks in addition to 15,000 linear meters of rainwater networks.”
He elaborated that this damage caused a health and environmental disaster that threatens the lives of citizens, due to sewage water spill in the alleys of various areas, citing the water of Sheikh Radwan rainwater pond which is now mixed with sewage water and has started to affect the city’s groundwater.
