Gaza receives cooking gas again as Israel ends 10-day suspension

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli authorities resumed the entry of cooking gas shipments into the Gaza Strip on Monday after a 10-day halt, but local officials say the quantities allowed in remain far from sufficient to ease the severe shortage facing residents.

Nahed Shehbar, head of Gaza’s Private Transport Association, said four trucks carrying cooking gas were allowed to enter through the crossings, while two other trucks in the same convoy were forced to return empty after being denied permission to unload their cargo.

Speaking to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Shehbar said the amount that entered Gaza was extremely limited and unable to meet the needs of the population, particularly after a 10-day interruption that worsened the hardship faced by residents and businesses dependent on cooking gas for daily operations.

He added that eight trucks had headed to the crossing the previous day, hoping to deliver gas, but all of them were turned back empty after waiting for hours.

Officials estimate that Gaza requires around 8,000 tons of cooking gas per month, or roughly 260 tons per day, to meet the population’s minimum needs. However, even before the latest closure, the quantities allowed into the territory did not exceed 20% of that demand.

Data from Gaza’s Petroleum Authority shows that since the ceasefire in October 2025 until mid-February, only 361 trucks carrying gas entered the territory, totaling around 7,000 tons, an amount sufficient for less than one month of Gaza’s needs.

The shortage has already begun affecting businesses, particularly restaurants, bakeries, and sweet shops that rely heavily on cooking gas. Business owners warn they may be forced to reduce operations or shut down entirely if supply shortages continue.
