Gaza Refugees Struggle as Severe Weather Hits Camps

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The prevailing weather conditions and a deep low-pressure system affecting Palestine have intensified the suffering of displaced families in the Gaza Strip.

In the town of Beit Lahia in the northern part of the enclave, a child was injured after a wall collapsed on him due to strong winds accompanying the storm.

Floodwaters also inundated tents sheltering displaced families in low-lying areas, while powerful winds tore down other tents, forcing displaced families, including children, to seek refuge in the open amid cold weather.

Displaced people are facing extremely harsh conditions, with freezing temperatures and strong winds. Thousands of Palestinians are living in tents made of nylon and thin fabric that offer little to no protection from rain and storms. Most are staying along roads, in stadiums, public squares, and schools, without any means to shield themselves from the cold or severe weather.

The absence of fuel has further deepened the crisis, leaving families unable to secure any form of heating as nighttime temperatures drop. With few alternatives available, many residents are resorting to sheltering in damaged and unstable buildings at risk of collapse after the occupying army destroyed most structures and blocked the entry of mobile homes and construction and reconstruction materials.
