Karachi, ( ) A one-day seminar titled “Global Solidarity with Palestine: Realities, Challenges and Prospects for Action, Pakistan as Model” was held at the University of Karachi under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi.
The event was organized by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS), Pakistan Institute of Labour and Research (PILER), and Palestine Foundation Pakistan (PLF).
Eminent scholars, experts, and activists from various universities and institutions participated, discussing Pakistan’s historical and ideological support for the Palestinian cause. The seminar highlighted the role of trade unions, Media, Social Media, civil society, youth, and political and religious leaders in advocating for Palestine before and after the partition of the subcontinent. Additionally, aspects of Palestinian culture were also showcased.
It should be noted that the aim of this seminar was to shed light on Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian issue from different angles.
On this occasion, issues such as normalization with the usurper Zionist regime of Israel was strongly rejected by all scholars.
Meanwhile Pakistan’s ideological and historical support for the Palestinian cause was highlighted, as well as suggestions for future support for the Palestinian cause were also presented.
Key speakers, including Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi, Dr. Muhammad Ali (Chairman, Political Science Department), Political Activist Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr., Nasir Shirazi (Head, Research Center of Gulf Studies, Islamabad), Brigadier (Retd) Hidayat Waris (Regional Director NUML Karachi), Dr. Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, Nehal Hashmi, Allama Baqir Zaidi, Mahfooz Yar Khan, Maj (r) Qamar Abbas, Muslim Parvez, Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani and Dr. Sabir Abu Maryam (Secretary General, Palestine Foundation Pakistan), emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering stance against the normalization of relations with Israel and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to Palestinian rights.
The seminar was addressed by Former Dean of the University of Karachi Dr. Shaista Tabassum, Dean of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University Dr. Riaz Sheikh, Dr. Osama Shafiq from the Research Center London, President of the Think Tank Centre for Alternative Perspective (CAP) and Professor of Bahria University Dr. Sidra Ahmed, Lecturer and Fashion Designer from the National Textile University Teeba Syed, Registrars of Federal Urdu University Dr. Sadia Khalil and Dr. Asghar Dashti, Lecturer of NUML karachi Muhammad Owais, Youth Leader Soban Baig, International Law Expert Sana Khan, Dr. Maroof Bin Ruouf from the Department of Education, Dr. Zeeshan Iqbal from the Department of Physics, Dr. Kamran Khan from the Department of Political Science, Director of PILER Abbas Haider.
A policy paper was prepared at the conclusion of the seminar, which will be shared with key institutions, including the Foreign Office, to serve as a roadmap for Pakistan’s continued support for Palestine.
Moderators Dr. Aamir Hussain, Dr. Sobia Butt, and Arzoo Nasir facilitated the discussions, which were attended by a large number of academics, researchers, Journalists and students.
This event reinforced Pakistan’s solidarity with Palestine and proposed actionable strategies for future advocacy.
