CAIRO, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Global Sumud Flotilla has submitted an official request to the Egyptian government for approval to allow its humanitarian land convoy to enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing in the south of the territory.
“The Gaza Strip is facing harsh conditions during the winter amid a manmade humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing restrictions on aid,” representatives of the flotilla said in a statement last Monday.
They noted that they made the request in light of the continued shortages of food, medical supplies, shelter materials, and other basic needs in Gaza.
“We, the undersigned representatives of the Global Sumud Flotilla, in cooperation with a coalition of international humanitarian organizations, respectfully submit this request seeking approval for the safe and expedited entry and passage of an international humanitarian convoy through the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt en route to the Rafah border crossing,” they said in their request.
“This convoy aims to transport urgent humanitarian relief assistance, including food items, medical supplies, and other essential necessities for delivery to civilians in the Gaza Strip, in light of the shortage of life-sustaining materials resulting from the ongoing blockade,” they added.
