GMO: The people in Gaza reached catastrophic stage of hunger and suffering

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Government Media Office (GMO) sounded the alarm about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, warning that the people in the Strip have reached a catastrophic phase of hunger and suffering, as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression and siege.

In a statement, the GMO called on the World Food Organization (WFP) to assume its responsibilities and distribute flour to Gazan families to put an end to the current food crisis and the daily congestion at the gates of bakeries.

Over 420 days the Israeli occupation army has been continuing its policy of starvation against the Gazans, with children and women mostly affected, amid the closure of all crossings and outlets in the Gaza Strip, it highlighted.

“In light of the human catastrophe and the real crisis experienced by our people, we are surprised by the catastrophic failure of international organizations and institutions operating in the Gaza Strip,” the GMO said.

It pointed out that the WFP had announced its refusal to distribute large quantities of flour, already available in its stores, to families and the displaced in the Strip, which means it is deliberately contributing to the continuation of the current food crisis in consistence with Israeli occupation policies.

“Unfortunately, we received the news of the death of three cases, in addition to previous cases, who died while waiting in queues at the doors of bakeries due to huge stampedes of citizens who suffer from hunger in an advanced stage,” the GMO stated.

The GMO condemned the ongoing Israeli crimes and called on the WFP to shoulder its responsibilities for field disasters in Gaza, which are attributed to its suspicious policies in managing its business in the Gaza Strip. It asked the UN organization to immediately distribute flour to the people in the Strip in order to end the current food crisis.

It also called on the Arab and Islamic countries to adopt a clear stance towards what is going on in the besieged and war-torn enclave which culminated in the current catastrophic humanitarian situation.
