GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Hamas said that the scenes broadcast by the “criminal Israeli occupation showing brutal abuse against Palestinian prisoners in the Ofer Prison under the supervision of the extremist criminal Ben Gvir represent a new war crime and a blatant challenge to international humanitarian laws related to prisoners.”
Hamas affirmed in a statement on Saturday that the international silence regarding the crimes against the Palestinian prisoners and the approval of the death penalty law, “encourage the fascist occupation to continue its brutal practices inside prisons, as an extension of the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.”
It added that the “physical and psychological torture against the heroic prisoners places the world, with all its institutions and governments, before their humanitarian, moral, and legal responsibilities to restrain the occupation and stop its crimes inside prisons.”
The Movement called for urgent action at all levels to protect the prisoners and to pursue the occupation and hold it accountable for its crimes.
It concluded by emphasizing that the prisoners will never be abandoned, and affirmed that the Palestinian people will remain loyal to them until they attain their freedom.
The Israeli minister of national security, Itamar Ben Gvir, stormed the cells at Ofer Prison near Ramallah on Friday morning, threatening to carry out executions against prisoners.
According to what Israeli Channel 7 reported, the visit, which came ahead of the onset of the blessed month of Ramadan, included a tour of the prisoners’ cells.
A video clip published by the channel showed scenes of assaults and repression against prisoners coinciding with Ben Gvir’s visit.
