GAZA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the last remarks made by far-right Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich, in which he called for reoccupying the Gaza Strip and rebuilding Jewish settlements on its land.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hamas described Smotrich’s remarks as an “explicit threat to continue genocidal crimes and forced displacement against the Palestinians in Gaza.”
“Smotrich’s remarks clearly reflect the glaring colonial nature of the occupation government and its complete disregard for the international law and UN resolutions,” Hamas said.
“This extremist minister has made his remarks while the West Bank is seeing parallel moves aimed at imposing the occupation’s sovereignty through settlement expansion and efforts to enact laws at the Knesset to institutionalize annexation,” Hamas added.
Hamas stressed that the Israeli attempts to impose new colonial faits accomplis in Gaza and the West Bank would not go unanswered. “This dangerous escalation by the occupation will be confronted by all forms of legitimate resistance in defense of the land, the national rights and the Islamic and Christian holy sites.”
Hamas called on the Arab countries, the international community and the UN to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities and take effective action to stop Israel’s incendiary policies that risk igniting the situation in the entire region.
The Movement also urged the International Criminal Court to hold Israeli leaders accountable, particularly Israeli ministers Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, for their overt incitement to kill civilians and forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.
