GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement has called for adopting a joint national program to confront the Israeli plans to annex the occupied West Bank.
In a statement on Friday, Hamas said that Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich’s stated intent to shut down the Israeli civil administration, which is in charge of Palestinian civil affairs in the occupied territories, is part of the Israeli government’s plan to annex the West Bank and impose its administrative and political sovereignty over it.
The Movement called on the Palestinian people from all spectra to adopt a comprehensive and inclusive national program based on resisting the occupation and confronting its dangerous Judaization and annexation plans in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The Movement added that this national program should also be aimed at “confronting the occupation’s brutal war on the Gaza Strip and its attempts to destroy the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations for liberation and self-determination.”
It called on the Palestinian Authority to immediately adopt the option of national unity, join forces with the Palestinian resistance, and end all forms of security cooperation with the Israeli occupation state.
Far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich recently told workers of the Israeli army’s civil administration that he hopes to shut down the department as part of Israel’s efforts to annex the West Bank, according to Ynet website.
“There will be an orderly process, and we are working now on solidifying the administrative work and putting the plan on the table,” Ynet quoted Smotrich as saying
“This is a serious statement, I have spoken with the prime minister about it and we are taking it very, very seriously. I also spoke with the designated ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter. We are trying to create a real process here. There is a lot of work involved, but this was once an impossible reality, and we can make it a reality,” he added.
