DOHA(Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement condemned, in a press statement issued on Thursday, the Israeli decision to ban Sheikh Ekrima Sabri’s access to Aqsa Mosque for six months.
“We strongly condemn the Israeli decision to ban the preacher and imam of Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ekrima Sabri’s entry into Aqsa Mosque for six months.”
The Movement considered the move “an arbitrary and retaliatory decision against Sabri’s national and Islamic role in confronting the Israeli Judaization plans in Occupied Jerusalem and Aqsa Mosque.”
The Movement also called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League to “take action against the Israeli Judaization measures, and protect the Islamic and Christian sanctities, mainly Aqsa Mosque.”
Earlier Thursday, the Israeli occupation issued a ban order against Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, blocking his entry into the holy site for six months.
The order came after Sheikh Sabri was arrested on August 2 and released hours later on the condition of banning his entry into the holy site for six days.
Sheikh Sabri, 86, was arrested from his home in the Al-Sawana neighborhood in the old city of Jerusalem after he mourned the chief of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haneyya, and led worshipers in his funeral prayer during the last Friday sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
