ANKARA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) A senior delegation from Hamas, headed by Mohammad Darwish, chairman of the Movement’s leadership council, met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara to discuss efforts to end Israel’s ongoing military assault on Gaza.
The meeting, which followed an earlier session with Turkish intelligence chief Dr. İbrahim Kalın, focused on Hamas’s vision for a comprehensive agreement. This includes a ceasefire, a prisoner exchange, reconstruction of Gaza, and lifting the Israeli blockade.
According to Hamas, the delegation raised concerns over continued acts of genocide, deliberate starvation, and forced displacement led by the Netanyahu government.
Minister Fidan expressed Türkiye’s firm rejection of Israel’s use of hunger as a weapon against Palestinians by blocking humanitarian aid. He stressed the urgent need for the international community to ensure the delivery of food, water, and essential supplies to besieged civilians in Gaza.
Fidan also reiterated Türkiye’s rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland and affirmed Ankara’s ongoing support for the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence.
The meeting also addressed the escalation of Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, including repeated assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Both sides discussed internal Palestinian reconciliation efforts, including proposals for a national unity government or a civil support committee in Gaza, as suggested in recent Egyptian mediation. Minister Fidan affirmed Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to these initiatives in all possible ways.
