Hamas delegation to arrive in Cairo for ceasefire talks

CAIRO (Palestine Foundation Information Center)  A senior-level Hamas delegation is scheduled to arrive in Cairo within the few coming hours for talks on the stalled Gaza ceasefire deal, the Movement said in a statement on Friday.

It added that the delegation, headed by political bureau member Khalil al-Hayya, would follow up on latest developments in the ceasefire deal talks with Egyptian officials.

The Hamas statement came shortly after an earlier announcement that it agreed to release the Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, who holds the American citizenship, in addition to the bodies of four other dual nationals, as part of a proposal presented by mediators to resume negotiations.

Hamas emphasized its full readiness to start negotiations and reach a comprehensive agreement on the second phase’s issues, stressing the need to oblige Israel to fully implement its commitments.

On Wednesday, Hamas announced the start of a new round of ceasefire negotiations, stressing that it is dealing with them responsibly and positively, including the ongoing negotiations with the US envoy.

Hamas expressed its hope that this round would result in tangible progress towards the start of the second phase of negotiations, paving the way for the cessation of the aggression, the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip and the completion of the prisoner swap deal.
