Hamas: Aid Trucks to Gaza Insufficient for Basic Needs

GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)

The Hamas Movement accused the Israeli occupation of continuing to allow only limited quantities and types of trucks into the Gaza Strip that “do not meet even the minimum of basic needs,” amid the worsening humanitarian catastrophe facing the population.

In a statement issued Monday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said that most of the trucks allowed in by Israel are “allocated for the commercial sector and carry non-essential supplementary goods,” while civilians are in desperate need of basic humanitarian aid, especially with winter approaching.

Qassem explained that the current supplies are “nowhere near sufficient to meet shelter needs,” stressing that existing shelters and tents are “uninhabitable and cannot withstand the harsh winter conditions.”

He added that the Movement had previously demanded the entry of mobile homes (caravans) as part of humanitarian protocols agreed upon during the January ceasefire and the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, in order to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

The Hamas spokesperson called on mediators and concerned nations to “take urgent and serious action” to allow the entry of caravans before winter storms hit, warning of a repeat of the tragic events that took place in shelters during previous winter seasons.
