GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Taher Al-Nunu, media advisor to the head of Hamas’s political bureau, said on Sunday that Israel is pursuing a policy of collective punishment and forced displacement of Palestinians, stressing that Hamas is making every effort to restore Rafah Crossing to full operation.
Al-Nunu described the reopening of the crossing as a key achievement of Palestinian resilience and stressed the need to build on it to alleviate Gaza’s dire humanitarian crisis.
He further explained that efforts are ongoing to expedite the work of the Gaza administration committee to counter Israeli pretexts and lay the groundwork for a better future. However, no date has yet been set for the handover of administrative control to a technocratic committee, though communication with the committee is ongoing.
Denying any Hamas military operations at the crossing, Al-Nunu called for a solution that would ensure the safe evacuation of trapped fighters in Rafah. He noted the lack of accurate information about their numbers in Rafah tunnels due to Israel’s unwillingness to address the issue.
He also highlighted the urgent need for treatment outside Gaza for approximately 15,000 injured and sick individuals and called for the entry of heavy machinery, caravans, and housing repairs to improve living conditions.
Al-Nunu stressed that Israel has shown no desire for a ceasefire and is using the war as a political tool ahead of its elections. He urged international actors to apply pressure to end the aggression and Israel’s continued targeting of civilians.
