AL-KHALIL, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Hamas Movement has warned against the consequences of the Israeli occupation army’s illegal decision to strip the al-Khalil municipality of its jurisdiction over the Ibrahimi Mosque and transfer it to its “civil administration” in the West Bank, describing the move as an “extremely dangerous Judaization step.”
In its statement on Thursday, Hamas described the decision as “part of the systematic Israeli targeting of the Ibrahimi Mosque’s Islamic identity, the Arab and Islamic heritage of al-Khalil City, and the religious and historical rights of the Palestinian people and the Muslim nation in the holy site.”
Hamas also called the step part of Israel’s efforts to impose full control over the occupied Palestinian territories and holy sites in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The Movement said that this Israeli measure represents a “blatant challenge to UNESCO resolutions, which have listed the Ibrahimi Mosque and al-Khalil’s Old City as World Heritage sites under threat.”
It urged the international community, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, as well as human rights and UN organizations, particularly UNESCO, to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to stop Israel’s violations against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestine.
