GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement stated on Thursday that the ongoing Israeli army’s destruction of homes, residential blocks, and infrastructure in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, represents a dangerous escalation in the brutal genocide being waged against the Palestinian people.
Hamas stressed that what is taking place in Rafah is a desperate attempt to claim a military achievement through the commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as blatant violations of international law—crimes being committed openly by “the head of the Zionist fascist government before the eyes and ears of the entire world.”
The statement went on to say that “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of what he called “Philadelphia Corridor 2,” along with the actions of the fascist occupation army aimed at imposing new facts on the ground in Rafah—cutting it off from the rest of Gaza, forcibly displacing its residents, and annexing it into what is known as the “buffer zone” along the border with Egypt—confirms that the criminal and Nazi-like occupation does not only target Rafah, but seeks to isolate Gaza entirely from its Arab depth.”
The Movement stated that the occupation seeks to deny Gaza’s people access to the outside world via their only crossing point.
“What is happening in Rafah is a stark example of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement—a situation made possible only by regional and international silence, and the lack of decisive and deterrent action against the leaders of the criminal fascist occupation government.”
Hamas called for urgent action by the international community and Arab and Islamic countries to stop the assault.
The Movement also urged the Arab and Islamic peoples, and all freedom-loving people around the world, to raise their voices against these ongoing crimes and apply pressure to take effective positions that will put an end to the aggression and thwart the Israeli plans to displace the Palestinian people and eliminate their cause.
