Hamdan: Ceasefire talks fail due to Israel’s unrealistic demands

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that despite the intensive and ongoing mediation efforts by Qatar and Egypt to broker a ceasefire agreement over the Gaza Strip, no tangible results have been achieved so far.

In televised remarks on Sunday, Hamdan affirmed that the unrealistic Israeli demands led to the failure of the ceasefire negotiations over Gaza, accusing the US administration of shifting blame to the Palestinian side.

“The agreement reached in Doha was reasonable and acceptable to all parties involved, but the sudden breakdown of the talks resulted from the US and Israeli refusal to honor what had been agreed upon,” Hamdan said.

“The right to bear arms for resistance is legitimate for the Palestinian people as long as the occupation persists,” Hamdan underlined.

“Any future political solution must be based on the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with exclusive control over its weapons. However, at the meantime, the right to armed resistance remains fully justified in confronting the occupation,” the Hamas official added.

“The resistance has always been open to negotiations to end the aggression, but the ongoing Israeli attacks have left the Palestinians with no choice but to remain steadfast and continue their resistance,” he said.

“Surrender is not an option. The Palestinian people have been resisting since the era of the British occupation,” he added.
