Hezbollah launches drone strike on Israeli forces gathering

BEIRUT (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Lebanese Hezbollah attacked a gathering of Israeli occupation forces with a swarm of attack drones at “Al-Amara Gate” on the southern outskirts of the town of Khiam in the Marjeyoun district of southern Lebanon on Sunday. Hezbollah affirmed that the drones accurately hit their targets.

Earlier today, Hezbollah announced that it targeted an Israeli Merkava tank with a guided missile west of the town of “Shama” in the Tyre district, leading to its destruction and leaving the crew either dead or injured.

In a second statement, Hezbollah, based in southern Lebanon, announced that it shelled a gathering of Israeli occupation soldiers east of the town of Khiam. The Israeli army continues its attempts to control the town of Khiam, using various types of weaponry, according to official Lebanese media. The occupation forces consider Khiam a “strategic gateway” that allows for rapid ground incursions into Lebanese territory, according to the Lebanese news agency.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes intensified their airstrikes over the past two days, and their artillery bombarded the center and outskirts of the town with heavy and medium-caliber shells. The town of Khiam, which belongs to the Marjeyoun district in the Nabatieh governorate, is located about 5 kilometers from the Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel and is one of three towns that the Israeli army has been trying to control for over ten days due to its strategic importance.

Historically, the town has a rich history of resistance against the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon from 1982 to 2000 and during the July 2006 war.

Controlling Khiam, which is approximately 950 meters above sea level, would mean controlling the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, reaching the plains of the town of Hula, and potentially cutting off the Bekaa Road, which Israel considers a vital supply route for Hezbollah, according to observers.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that 3,670 Lebanese have been martyred, and 15,413 others injured since the start of the Israeli aggression against the country, according to the Lebanese news agency. Since late September, Israel has intensified its air strikes and started ground operations in Lebanon, following nearly a year of cross-border shelling with Hezbollah amid the war on the Gaza Strip.
