RAMALLAH (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) warned against Israel’s gradual liquidation of the 62-year-old sick prisoner Walid Daqqa whose health condition is dramatically deteriorating in Israeli jails.
The two human rights groups said in a joint statement on Wednesday that prisoner Daqqa has been repeatedly transferred to hospital, with no further information on his current health condition.
The statement indicated that the Israel prison Service (IPS) has been deliberately obstructing his visitation by lawyers and legal teams and denying him his right to communicate with his family.
The statement added that the IPS informed on Wednesday Daqqa’s lawyer that he was transferred from the Al-Ramleh prison clinic to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, after a new deterioration in his health condition.
The two human rights organizations’ statement noted that the elderly sick prisoner Daqqa, who is from Baqa al-Gharbiya town in the West Bank, suffers from a rare bone marrow cancer, describing his health condition as extremely dangerous.
The two groups held the Israeli occupation authorities responsible for the fate of prisoner Daqqa, who is one of the oldest and most prominent prisoners in Israeli jails, as Israel has been refusing for many decades to release him as part of any exchange or release deals.
