GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday evening that a number of infants suffering from serious conditions due to drought and malnutrition have been admitted to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza Strip.
The statement from the Ministry of Health comes amidst a severe and suffocating isolation imposed by the Israeli occupation army on the Gaza Strip and the northern regions, where all means of life and its necessities are denied to nearly 700,000 Palestinians who have chosen to remain in their homes and refuse the threats and orders to evacuate southward.
In previous statements by the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Husam Abu Safiya, it was confirmed that a number of children in the northern area of the Strip have died due to malnutrition and food shortages, as well as the spread of diseases resulting from the continuous Israeli aggression and blockade.
Abu Safiya explained that most of the cases arriving at the hospital recently suffer from severe dehydration due to malnutrition, in addition to the spread of infections in the gastrointestinal tract and intestinal diseases.
He warned that newborns are arriving at the hospital in critical conditions, showing signs of weakness and pallor due to maternal malnutrition.
According to data from the official media office in the Gaza Strip, 8 deaths have been recorded in the northern region as a result of famine and malnutrition.
One out of every 10 children under the age of five in Gaza suffers from severe malnutrition, according to preliminary data from the United Nations, as indicated by arm circumference measurements that reflect the levels of emaciation in children.
The charitable organization “Action Aid” mentioned that some people resort to eating grass, adding that everyone in Gaza is now suffering from hunger, and people only receive 1.5 or 2 liters of non-potable water per day to meet all their needs.”
According to local and international human rights organizations, Israel uses hunger as a weapon, as a form of collective punishment against the residents of northern Gaza Strip.
