Injured American woman in Gaza bombing calls for global support to oppressed Palestinians

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) An American citizen residing in the Gaza Strip, who was injured in an Israeli bombing, expressed her wish for Arabs and the entire world to stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and help them confront the Israeli aggression on the Strip that has been ongoing since October 7th of last year.

The American woman, Deborah Darwel, screamed in pain after being injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted her apartment in Deir al-Balah, saying, “What is happening in Gaza is unjust, and all Arabs and the world should be here to help. I am here because I don’t want Israel to take all of Gaza and Palestine.”

The Palestinian civil defense teams managed to rescue the American citizen, Darwel, last night after the Israeli army bombed her apartment in Deir al-Balah, destroying it, according to the Anadolu Agency.

In an interview with Anadolu, Darwel, 62, who has been living in Gaza for years, said, after being rescued from under the rubble of her house and taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir al-Balah, “Israel bombed my apartment. I was trapped and had difficulty breathing, and I couldn’t see.”

Darwel screamed in agony as a large part of the rubble fell on her back and legs due to the Israeli bombing of her apartment.

Regarding the reason for her staying in Gaza and not traveling with the rest of the American citizens, Darwel said, “Every time I try to say that if I leave, it will be as if I am chirping alone,” indicating that she does not want to survive alone.

She added, “I truly believe that everyone should be treated equally. You cannot leave the country that you believe the Palestinians have a right to.”

She continued, “I will never leave because if Israel takes all of Gaza or all of Palestine, they want everyone to leave, so I stayed because I don’t want them to take Palestine.”

She said, “Being an American living in Gaza, I feel that all Arabs and the world should be here to help,” adding that “all Americans should support Gaza, everything happening here is unjust and should stop immediately.”

During the first two months of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the United States evacuated hundreds of its citizens through the Rafah border crossing on the border with Egypt. These individuals were working within various international and relief institutions in Gaza or were married to Palestinians and lived with them in the Strip.

Last October, a number of Palestinians holding American citizenship were injured in the airstrikes that targeted the city of Gaza at the beginning of the war.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in tens of thousands of civilian casualties, mostly children and women, as well as an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive infrastructure destruction.
