WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Over the past year, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have arrested approximately 2,300 Palestinians in the northern West Bank governorates of Jenin and Tulkarem, as part of a campaign aimed at displacing tens of thousands and dismantling the camps’ urban and social infrastructure.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported on Tuesday, marking one year since the launch of the military operation in the northern West Bank camps on January 21, 2025, that 2,300 Palestinians have been detained from the camps of Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams.
The arrests have targeted all segments of society and were carried out as part of a sweeping and systematically escalating campaign. This included converting Palestinian homes into military outposts and interrogation sites, in addition to brutal physical assaults, torture, and direct threats to detainees and their families.
According to the report, the IOF soldiers have used civilians as human shields and hostages, carried out looting and destruction, and demolished hundreds of homes, displacing tens of thousands and imposing a coercive reality on the population.
These arrests form part of a broader campaign that has intensified since Israel’s genocide in Gaza began in October 2023. Over the course of that two-year war, more than 21,000 Palestinians were arrested in the West Bank, in addition to thousands in Gaza.
The PPS emphasized that mass arrests are a key tool used to repress Palestinian society and suppress any form of resistance.
It warned that the post-genocide phase marks the most dangerous period in the history of detentions, with its impact extending across all Palestinian regions. The aim appears to be comprehensive subjugation and the erasure of Palestinian existence, especially within the camps, which have seen tens of thousands displaced and their infrastructure destroyed.
Since Israel launched its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, the military and settlers have escalated violence across the West Bank, including killings, arrests, forced displacement, and settlement expansion. Palestinians warn that this may be a prelude to the annexation of the West Bank by Israel.
These attacks have killed at least 1,107 Palestinians and injured around 11,000 others, while over 21,000 have been arrested, according to official Palestinian data.
