IOF continues siege on Tulkarem, its two camps for 114th day

TULKAREM  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have continued their siege on Tulkarem governorate and its two camps, Tulkarem and Nour Shams, for the 114th day on Tuesday amid ground escalation and continuous military deployment.

At dawn on Tuesday, the IOF stormed the eastern suburb of Ektaba and deployed in its streets and alleys, before arresting freed prisoner Saad Othman Besais after storming his home.

In Nablus Street and the nearby northern neighborhood, the IOF besieged a number of buildings and residential homes after forcibly evicting their residents and converting them into military barracks. Some of these buildings have been under control for more than two months.

The IOF is currently imposing a tight siege on the Tulkarem and Nour Shams camps, preventing citizens from returning to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced, with more than 4,200 families from the two camps, comprising more than 25,000 citizens, being forcibly displaced.

As the aggression continues, the occupation army has completely destroyed more than 400 homes and partially damaged 2,573 others, in addition to closing the entrances and alleys of the camps with earthen barriers, turning them into isolated areas almost devoid of life.

Local sources reported that the occupation forces are dispatching military reinforcements around the clock to Tulkarem and its camps, where army vehicles are patrolling the streets and main neighborhoods, using their horns provocatively, driving in the opposite direction, and repeatedly setting up makeshift checkpoints, especially in the city center, Nablus Street, and Shweikeh Roundabout in the northern neighborhood.

The neighborhoods of the two camps are witnessing an intense deployment of occupation forces, which have turned a number of houses into military sites and sniper positions, amid heavy firing and pursuit of anyone trying to enter the camp.

The Nour Shams camp has witnessed a campaign of demolition of residential buildings in its main neighborhoods, affecting more than 20 buildings, including apartments, and damaging neighboring buildings, in implementation of the occupation’s plan to demolish 106 buildings in the Tulkarem and Nour Shams camps to open streets and roads and change their geographical features.

The ongoing aggression has resulted in the martyrdom of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant, in addition to dozens of injuries and arrests, and widespread destruction of infrastructure, homes, shops, and vehicles, which were demolished, burned, looted, and stolen.

In parallel with the war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, resulting in the martyrdom of at least 969 Palestinians, the injury of about 7,000, and the arrest of more than 17,000, according to Palestinian figures.
